Gwinnett County's Neighborhood Watch program is called "C.O.P.S." (Community Oriented Police Service).

What you can expect from the C.O.P.S. Program
Block Captain Responsibilities
A Block Captain is the contact between Liaison(John Schmarkey) and Participants (that's you!) These are their responsibilities under the C.O.P.S. program.
- Assist liaison in coordinating meetings and activities.
- Is responsible for an assigned number of homes.
- Maintains a ledger of assigned participants.
- Participates in the "Calling Tree" according to guidelines.
- Documents all reported incidents.
- Attends all meetings.

How you can support the C.O.P.S. Program
Be a C.O.P.S. Participant. Participant responsibilities are:
- Supplies Block Captain with ledger information.
- Participates in the "Calling Tree" according to guidelines.
- Notifies Block Captain of new residents.

We are setting up two email mailing lists -- this is a work in progress as of Monday; September 29, 2008
- cops-announce@lists.summertown.org : A low volume list for C.O.P.S. coordinators to send notices to everyone in Summertown. This is not a discussion list and posting it restricted. Status: functional.
- cops-captains@lists.summertown.org : A discussion lists for C.O.P.S. Block Captains. Will allow free participation by all Block Captains. Status: We're currently building the list of block captain's email addresses. List has been created and we have ~9 active captains subscribed.
